The Beginning

Before Rosin was born, there was a handcome male, bred by Island Farm Anatolians named Kenzo, official name with titles: CH Island Farm’s Kensington.

And a big, beautiful fawn female with a black mask bred by Cougar Ridge Anatolians called Tulli, official name CH Panthera Tulliana of Cougar Ridge.

Together these two Anatolians had a litter of 5, 3 females and 3 males.

One of whom was destined to be mine!

I knew Rosin’s name before I knew if I was getting a boy puppy or a girl puppy!

One day his breeder called and asked me what I thought of the name Rosin the Bow at Cougar Ridge.

She had been listening to a radio show, produced by a man who is, among other things, a Celtic fiddler like myself. On the day she was listening it was his show called “Rosin the Bow” and he was comparing two violins, the Stradivarius, and the Guarneri del Gesu. This will be a foreign language to anyone who isn’t in the classical music world, but I’m a classically trained violinist, and this was very meaningful to me!

It turned out later, when I played Rosin’s breeder, Stephanie, an Irish tune called Rosin the Bow, that it is her favorite tune, so his name became special on several levels.

The violin bow also requires rosin in order to connect with the strings and make sound, without it, the horsehair would just fly off of the strings and there would be no music!

Once Stephanie had chosen (in the end she chose between the two boys for me) she sent me the picture above of Rosin leaping in the air and said that he was “jumping for joy” at the idea of coming home with me!

Meeting Rosin in Truckee

Rosin at 5 1/2 weeks old in my arms!

Of course, as a lifelong (and professional) musician, one of the things I did was to play the violin for the puppies. Rosin is the one in the front left, you can tell him by the reddish color of his fur.

Picking Rosin up in Long Beach

Quite a difference in size already!

At 9 weeks he looks less like a tiny puppy!
